First Drawing - Contour Drawings

  • I believe the focal point of this drawing is the large water bottle. This proves to be the focal point because it is the largest item on the page and has a gradient from light to dark. It also has the thickest lines. From there, the viewer's eye is attracted to the pure white wire cutters that contrast greatly with the dark background behind it.
  • I think the most important technique in creating this drawing is the eraser. The eraser allowed for the background's darks and lights to gradually blend in a natural way. The brush as well was extremely important in this drawing because it creates unique patterns that move your eye across the page.
  • My drawing is creative and unique because of how I used the tools. The background has several different values ranging from very dark in the left bottom and top right corners to very light in the bottom right. Layering paint brush strokes created a background that allowed the contour drawings to stand out. Blurring the lines on the smaller objects made them appear farther away than the larger, crisper objects, and making the objects range from black, grey, and white allows for versatility and balance within the page.
